Why You Do Not have Killer Abs or that 6 Pack Abdominal Muscle

Ask any woman what is the most attractive part of a male body and most of the time, they will tell you it's the six pack abs, meaning that your abdominal muscle showing up with beautiful definition. Your abs is considered by many as a sexy muscle and is a symbol of a fit and healthy man. Women are instinctively drawn towards a man brimming with health and fitness because it is a primitive indication that the man is strong enough to protect her and her brood. A rippling six pack abs is one such indication. So is it any wonder that in every gym, you will see men of all ages doing crunches, leg raisers and sit ups religiously in the hope of obtaining the much coveted killer abs? Unfortunately, most men will never get to see their abdominal muscle in its glorious splendor. Why? The following fitness tip will show you why.

You may not like what I am going to give to you straight in the face here. But I will give it to you anyway. So here it goes. Listen up carefully. You may do a zillion crunches a day, then another another million leg raisers , but as long as there is a layer of fat covering your tummy, you will never see your abs because it is covered by the blubber of fat. In fact, your waistline will become bigger because you are adding muscles underneath those fats! So instead of having a slim waistline and showing off your abs, you will have a bigger waistline and thicker love handles. Now get this straight. There is no such thing as spot reduction! Once the fats are off, your abs will show. That I promise you. It is just that simple to display your abs. Lose fats! That's all.

Late night TV commercials or magazines has been telling you that you can have well defined abs by using this gadget or that electronic gizmo. Do you really believe that it is that simple? If it is so, then everyone will have that six pack abs in no time, won't they? Then why isn't that so? Because it just doesn't work that way.

To lose fat effectively and permanently for your abdominal muscles to show, you must include a mildly deficit calorie restriction diet, frequent cardio workouts and strength training with weights to build muscle so as to raise your metabolism in order to lose weight and burn fat naturally. Your weight loss goals will not be achieved effectively or permanently if any one of these three elements is done wrongly or not even incorporated in your slimming program. I repeat the three elements again :-

A mildly caloric deficit diet - A mildly caloric deficit diet to help you lose weight.

Frequent cardio workouts - Frequent cardio workout to exercise your heart and lungs and burn fat at the same time.

Weight Lifting to build muscles - Build muscles to burn fat permanently as muscles use up more calories from your food for energy. Lifting weights will also give you a well toned body and help your abs to show.

Forget about any fad diets or popping slimming pills . These may work initially but in the long run, they are bound to fail.

Now supposing that you are successful in your lose weight lose fat program and have very little fat covering your torso but yet you do not have well defined abs....what happened? You are doing your exercises wrongly or in poor form. More about exercise techniques and form in future articles.

Acne Light

Millions of people have suffered from acne during their teenage days. Some of them, particularly women have suffered a prolonged acne problem beyond teenage. So much has been discussed and invented to wipe off this menace from the face. In fact very few experiments have been successful.

The newest on the block is acne light therapy. The acne light therapy is based on a device. The device in the acne light therapy attacks the bacteria in the clogged holes of the skin. The bacteria live below the skin surface. Porphyrin, a metabolic by-product of the bacteria is sensitive to light. The acne light device works on those porphyrins. A very sensitive blue light is released from the acne light device. When the porphyrins come in contact with the blue light they produce oxygen within the acne. This oxygen kills the bacteria. This is the basic technique of acne light therapy.

Acne light therapy is effective up to four months. Acne light therapy reduces acne up to sixty percent. The whole process of acne light therapy takes fifteen minutes. There have been no side effects reported. The success of the acne light therapy depends on the type of acne. Along with the therapy you need to take proper care of your skin.

Paul has been providing answers to lots of queries through his website on a wide variety of subjects ranging from satellite phones to acne. To learn more visit http://beauty.resourz.com/2006/01/30/acne-light/

Diabetes Symptoms ? Prevention is Better than Cure

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects the person capacity to make insulin. Insulin is a hormone that permits blood sugar or glucose to enter body cells. Because of diabetes much of the glucose remains in the blood of a person. The high blood sugar levels are harmful for your eyes, nerves, kidneys, heart and blood vessels.

The common symptoms of diabetes are too much urination or polyuria, excessive thirst or polydipsia, loss of weight, excessive starvation, nausea, extreme tiredness, infections, irritability and tiredness.

There are three major types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, Type 2 diabetes or non-insulin dependent diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus.

In type-1, the beta cells that make insulin are damaged and various environmental factors like eating habits or viruses results in causing type-1 Diabetes. People with type-1 diabetes take insulin injections and follows a careful diet. Type 2 is most common type of diabetes that affects nearly 75-85% of people. The main cause behind such type of diabetes is heredity and other factors include obesity, high blood pressure and lack of proper diet. It can be controlled with the help of regular exercise, taking proper diet. The third type is GDM and its main causes are heredity, increased maternal age, fatness etc. It increases the chances for mother to develop permanent diabetes and sometimes the child also develops diabetes in later age.

Diabetes is a deadly disease, which has no cure but you can control your diabetes. There are many different ways by which you can control your diabetic levels. You will maintain proper level of your blood glucose with regular exercise, regular check-ups from your doctor and taking proper diet. Sometime oral medications like sulfonylurea drugs, meglitinides and thiazolidinediones also help type-2 diabetes patient to put control over problem. But these medications are not a cure for all type of diabetes; you have to follow other treatments also.

Fitness Training Do the Exercises Correctly

In fitness, like in any other sport, correct performing of exercises is essential. Even if a program is well dosed, divided and individualized, as long as the exercises are not done correctly, no one can expect to achieve the results he/ she expected. Moreover, there could be a risk for his/ her body health and integrity.

Special attention must be paid to the condition of the spine, which could suffer from pathological deformation of the type of cifosis, scoliosis, lordosis or combined problems. These cases are more to be dealt with in the field of kinetic therapy, medical gymnastics, etc. In the other cases, the natural curves of the spine must always be protected and maintained in a safe condition.

In order to reduce the risk of injury, the sportsman must be careful not only with the correctness of the exercises, but also with fortifying spine muscles. The major joints of the body (the coxofemural joints and the joints of the elbow and the knee) must not be neglected, since they are the most exposed to effort.

Regarding the correctness of the exercises, it is recommended that the normal amplitude of a joint not be forced. If the purpose of the training is to increase the mobility of the joints, the body must be carefully warmed up before the flexibility exercises. All the body must be warmed up with aerobic exercises for about 5-10 minutes. This is necessary for gradually increasing the temperature of the whole body, so implicitly of the joints which are going to be involved in the effort. For the same purpose, the stretching exercises are extremely important and effective. Their dosing must be carefully graduated and at the beginning a very short period (8-10 seconds) must not be exceeded.

The technique of performing the exercises is constantly improved, so that the sportsman can reach skills which will be very useful when he/ she tries to learn new and more complex exercises. From the large area of force exercises, one must avoid the positions which involve a moment of pressure of the spine and the partial repetitions which do not open or close a joint completely.

In the case of efforts during which the body is prone to repeated shocks, like running, jumping, special attention must be paid to techniques meant to dampen, to soften the impact. In sports which encourage deformation, partial development of the body, like cycling, tennis, football, it is necessary to try and maintain a balance between the muscle groups which are less involved in effort during specific training and the ones overexerted. Compensating exercises can always be found for every agonist or antagonist muscle. This way the joints involved in exercising are much better protected.

It is also very important to vary the exercises regularly in order to avoid routine, which is very frustrating for the sportsman who trains constantly, for a long time, in the same program. The effort must be carefully dosed so that the sportsmen avoid both overtraining and training below the level of minimum effectiveness.

If you consider these aspects of individual or collective training, the effectiveness of your training will definitely improve.

The Truth About the Meat You Eat

There are so many topics to discuss which affect our health that it is hard to choose just one at a time. My motto is Unhealthy Soil = Unhealthy Plants and Animals = Unhealthy People. With that in mind, let?s discuss meat, fish and meat substitutes. I just read an article by some well meaning person who was bragging that chicken and soy are good for you ? WRONG!

If you consider how our ancestors developed in the last 10,000+ years, you will realize they ate non-chemical meats, berries, and nuts ? things that they could forage. They ate deer, buffalo, birds and other types of meat. The common thing all these meat sources shared was that they were grass fed and loaded with Omega III?s and other beneficial fatty acids. However crude it was, they also caught fish. If they were inland it was fresh water, but if they were close to the ocean it was sea food.

The land was also untouched and the grasses and other plants grew and died and went back into the soil year after year. Because of this, the meat from the animals and fish in the streams (or sea food) were loaded with trace minerals. The nuts and berries were also loaded with trace minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and enzymes. With this combination, we had healthy soil, healthy plants and animals, and healthy people.

Fast forward to the present - what do we have today? Grain-fed chemical beef, chemical chicken, cancerous fish from fresh water, toxic sea food, no trace minerals from fruits and vegetables, and genetically engineered grains grown with toxic fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides.

We see all kinds of articles suggesting that chicken is healthier than beef. Before you get all warm and fuzzy with this thought, think about the things that go into the average cattle and chicken diets before they get to your grocery shelves.

Are you ready for a picture of the preparation of cows and chickens before they make it to your dinner table?

The calves are born to mothers who have pesticide tags stuck in their ears for flies. They eat grass from land that has toxic fertilizers and is probably sprayed with herbicides to kill the weeds. (If the soil was healthy and fertile, you wouldn?t have weeds). The calves are supplemented with grains from fields without trace minerals and exposed to herbicides, pesticides and fungicides ? unhealthy plants.

They are weaned from their mothers and put into a feed lot. There they have steroids and/or hormones injected into their ears, are fed a very concentrated grain diet with a little fiber, and ingest antibiotics which are added to the food to prevent disease because they stand around without exercise putting excrement on each other.

They have chemical wormers sprayed on from their heads to their tails to prevent parasites. Their feed also has to be sprayed with Arm and Hammer (TM) baking soda to prevent gas (from the grain diet) that can kill them. Because of the super-acid stomach, they produce E-coli in their guts that if leaked into the meat can kill us. I need to add here that because of the grain diet these animals have no essential beneficial fatty acids ? the good stuff for our health.

Now, measure chickens against beef. Chickens have been bred to grow and mature quickly. With their diet (50% chemicals and grains grown with toxic chemicals) they mature in 6 weeks. They have to be harvested at 6 weeks because if they go to 8 weeks, they will die of heart attacks (the heart does not grow at the same speed as their bodies).

They also have part of their beaks removed so they don?t kill each other. They are confined in houses (usually 100 feet by 40 feet wide), and walk on manure and shavings from previous lots. One of my favorite things about their diets is the arsenic (a heavy metal) put into their feed to make them eat more. They stop feeding the arsenic 5 days before slaughter, and want you to believe that there is no residual in their bodies ? NOT TRUE!

Also, if you read on the label that store bought chicken is Free Range, don?t believe it. The latest deception is that they build a little sun room on the side of the industrial chicken house so the chickens can go into this room ? hence Free Range. Real Free Range chickens are allowed to graze on grass, eating bugs, and allowing their manure to fertilize the land as nature would normally allow.

Just in case you think that substituting soy beans for protein is a good thing, let me dispel that idea. Soy beans are for the most part (85%) genetically engineered. This means they can tolerate more herbicide, which you get to eat. Herbicides are a leading cause of cancer.

They are GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) because the large corporations who invented them did so to make money, not to feed the world or make a new nutritious food source. GMO foods have almost no nutrition. These corporations are trying to destroy our God-given plants, so we have to eat their dang foods! We still have no idea of the diseases that will crop up in people and animals because of these unnatural foods.

If the GMO is not enough, then think of the other toxic chemicals used to grow the crops. Remember that soy is also loaded with phytoestrogens. These estrogens can increase a woman?s breast size. Is that so they can get larger and then have a better chance of breast cancer?

As long as we are talking about phytoestrogens and soy, we need to consider soy milk for infants. If you have a new baby, would you go to the doctor and say ?Doc, I feel strongly that my baby needs estrogens. Can you give me a script for the little tyke?? As silly as this sounds, that is what happens to babies on soy.

So I ask, what does the estrogen do to these babies? Does it make little girls mature at 7 and 8 years old? Does it make little boys more likely to become homosexual? I don?t have an answer ? just questions.

I also need to add that seafood can provide beneficial fatty acids, but how many PCB?s (polychlorinated biphenyls) and how much mercury do you want with your diet? PCB?s are a very toxic chemical associated with cancer by being stored in the fat of animals, fish and humans. This was banned in 1976, but has been dumped in our rivers and oceans. It doesn?t biodegrade easily and persists in the environment for many years. Mercury is a heavy metal from many sources, but is a common pollutant from smoke stacks of electric generating plants. Michigan has more falling with rain than the EPA says is safe.

The only salmon readily available that is free from chemicals (we have been polluting the oceans for years) is salmon from Alaskan waters.

Beef from the store is unhealthy. The plastic wrap and styrene containers leak gas and chemicals which cause cancer and depression. Even the organic beef from health stores is not healthy because the grain diet destroys the beneficial fatty acids ? no Omega III?s, CLA?s, etc. This being said, you can buy grass fed non-chemical beef from farmers all over the US, if you just take time to do learn how to find them.

The chicken in the stores is also unhealthy, but you can learn how to find pastured poultry. These are chickens that live on grass, bugs, and live healthy lives in the sunshine. You can find pasture chickens that produce healthy eggs. These eggs are wonderful with their bright orange, upright, great-tasting yellows.

It is hard to eliminate GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) like soy and corn, but it can be done. We don?t need grains in our diets. Grains are unhealthy for cows (they are grass eating machines) and they make them fat. Grains do the same to humans. They make us fat and unhealthy, particularly when grains are striped of all nutrition (white bread), pesticides and herbicides are left behind, and toxic fertilizers are used to grow the crops.

You might think when you buy a bag of fertilizer that you are getting 100% fertilizer, but that isn?t true. Fifty pounds of fertilizer will be made up of 1/3 to 2/3 industrial waste. The waste may be reasonably neutral, but it might be toxic with heavy metals ? lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic and/or other toxins. When toxic metals can be passed off as trace minerals, they can be given to fertilizer manufacturers, added to fertilizers, and spread on our farm land and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is not involved.

If the waste was to go into a land fill, the EPA would be involved and the disposal would be very expensive. Mercury is one of the most abused metals in the food chain. When the government tried to clean up our air, they required scrubbers on the smoke stacks to collect the mercury. After collecting the mercury, the electric utilities had to get rid of the waste, so ?look out farm land, look out food?.

We need carbs, but not unhealthy non-nutrient carbs loaded with chemicals.

So, some of the solutions to better eating and better health are grass-fed, non-confined beef, chicken, lamb, and pork. No grains ? particularly anything white. Buy as much organic food as possible and begin looking for ?therapeutic food? (so healthful that it improves your health instead of hurting it) from producer networks.

Be Aware Of Your Reasons

You have decided that you want to lose weight and improve your health. What is the first step? Start by asking yourself what your reason(s)is for wanting to make this change.

This may sound trivial, but if you do not have a conscience and powerful reason for wanting to lose weight, you will find plenty of reasons not to.

I'm assuming that, like me, a lot of you have tried and failed at some previous attempt to lose weight in the past. For me, the last time was about 2 1/2 years ago. I had lost about 50 pounds, which I had killed myself to do, and had kept it off for about 6 months. Two later, I gained back the 50 pounds plus another 8 pounds.

I had plenty of excuses. My wife and I bought our first house, my second son was born, I took a part-time job in the evening, ect... I kept finding excuses not to work out and my diet soon followed and went down the tubes.

After working so hard why did I let this happen?

I believe now that it came down to the fact that my reason for wanting to stay lean and healthy had changed. When I first began, I kept looking at pictures of myself at nineteen and I wanted to look like that again. There was nothing I could do about the thinning hair, but I could change my body. But somewhere along the way, looking like I did twelve years ago was no longer important.

The point to all of this is that you need to consciously pick a reason and write it down. It will probably be more than one and they should be something that is important to you. Important enough to get you through those rough days ahead when you feel like quiting.

Post you reasons somewhere that you will see them everyday. At your desk, ect... I like to place mine on the refrigerator so when I get that craving for some ice cream I have to stop and ask myself if it is worth it. It feels so good when I reach in and grab a bottle of water instead.

We all are starting from a different place. We all have reasons why we are where we are. We all have reasons why we don't want to be here anymore. Knowing these reasons and being aware when they change will help you greatly in achieving your goals.

Shirataki And Weight Loss

Japanese women have been using shirataki noodles for weight loss for years. If you go to Japan and ask the women about shirataki or as it is sometimes know as konnyaku the first things you will hear about is how it is good to eat to keep slim. Shirataki and weight loss go hand in hand. For the American however not used to eating them one must know how to use the shirataki Miracle Noodle in a sensible plan for weight loss.

Although a full treatment of this topic is beyond the scope of this short article. There are many principles that can be described to get a better understanding of shirataki and weight loss.

1. The Shirataki Miracle Noodle is made of a health soluble fiber so that when you eat it it will expand slightly in your stomach and provide a sense of fullness. Adding shirataki to the beginning of a meal and eating slowly will provide a feeling of fullness and satisfaction.

2. The Shirataki Miracle Noodle has no calories so while the noodles are in your digestive tract they are absorbing cholesterol and slowing down the absorption of glucose so your blood sugar will even out and you won?t have spikes of energy and exhaustion. All the while not contributing to the calories.

3. My suggestion, assuming you get enough nutrients at your other meals of the day, is to substitute the carbs at lunch with the Miracle Noodle drastically reducing the calories and providing a sense of fullness throughout the afternoon.

4. You can substitute these noodles with any recipe of pasta and have a meal with a fraction of the number of calories just keep in mind the need to not completely restrict carbohydrates. Your body prefers quality carbohydrates for energy(more about this in later articles), if you restrict them, you will be on the Atkins Diet which is a diet I am not a huge fan of. The Japanese have some great recipes for these noodles, check out the links page on my website for the cookbooks I recommend.

In summary, the Shirataki Miracle Noodle and weight loss make perfect partners. By making sure that you are eating healthy food, adding shirataki noodles can be a great way to increase fiber, decrease hunger, decrease carbohydrates, absorb cholesterol and even out blood sugar. Shirataki and weight loss and you, the perfect combination of healthy living through sensible non-starvation dieting.

Is Dairy Good for You?

Do you really know the truth about dairy? Is dairy as good as the Dairy Council and the governement claims? Is dairy making you sick?

That is the point to the website DairyTruth.com. DairyTruth.com will show you the research and the truth about all those dairy products that are supposed to be good for you: milk, cheese, ice cream, yogurt. They delve into modern dairy farming practices that require more of a knowledge of chemistry than farming and husbandry. And they look at how dairy products from cows are handled by the human body. After all, humans are not cows and human dietary and physical needs are far different than those of a cow.

And DairyTruth.com looks closely at how cow?s milk affects human babies. Human babies are not calves, yet marketing tells us that mother?s milk is bad for babies and inconvenient. Yet cow?s milk, milk designed to nurture an animal from 100 pounds to 1000 pounds in a short span, is the best solution for a human baby. A hot topic right now is osteoporosis and the huge epidemic it has become in the country?s aging population. Conventional medical wisdom screams, ?Drink more milk and eat more dairy. The extra calcium prevents osteoporosis. Milk does a body good!? In actuality, milk does a body bad! The proteins in cow?s milk actually destroy the calcium in the human body worsening the disease it is purported to cure.

So how did we get conditioned into thinking that dairy is good for us? Just blame the Milk Marketing Board and the various dairy marketing associations that for years have been blasting the public with misleading advertisements. All the while, they have been injected their cows with chemicals and steroids to force the cows to produce more milk. And what happens to all those chemicals and hormones? They wind up in the milk we feed our children everyday! And if you don?t believe it, look at the age of puberty in girls in the United States. Puberty in girls is not uncommon in eight year-old girls and one percent of the girls start puberty at age three! How can this be? Plain and simple, it?s the hormones! When you pump a female cow full of hormones to produce more milk, those hormones are passed into the cow?s milk. This milk is then consumed by our daughters causing extremely early puberty.

The effects are the same on boys. Boys consume the same hormone- and chemical-rich milk we feed our girls. Boys are reaching puberty younger as well. And one could argue (though scientific research has yet to prove this out) that our young men are becoming more effeminate by consuming female hormones in their milk. It would be interesting if science would test this theory. Even if this is not the case, our children drink way too much cow?s milk. What our children need to be drinking is clean, pure water. However, that is a topic for another article as our source?s of clean water are becoming harder and harder to find.

Subway Sandwich Diet Where Is the Proof?

We have been hearing for sometime that Subway has multiple sandwiches with 6 grams of fat or less. Great! But if the subway diet is so good why does there seem to be little support to back up the results?

There is a constant barrage of commercials starring Jared, who lost over 200 lbs eating only subway sandwiches. I am as happy for Jared as the next guy, but something works shouldn't there be more than one person as proof? If it were a diet pill there would be government trails, FDA approval, and more than one person testing it before the general public would be allowed to have access. But we are supposed to take the word of one guy?

After a brief search on the internet it seems the general consensus is that it wasn't so much the Subway sandwiches as it was the radically change in the amount of calories Jared was eating daily, about 1/10 of his previously normal daily intake. Most sites/articles also pointed out that after some initial weight loss he also started a walking program to further enhance his weight loss activities.

It is not recommended to have such a radical change in your eating habits, but a gradual reduction in the number of calories you eat daily is a better approach. Also, look at what you eat. Not only was Jared eating few calories, he was eating healthier foods. Mostly veggies and bread, no mayo or oil. Look at what you eat as well as how much.

Bottom line is the same for any diet. Take in fewer calories than you burn and you will loose weight. So either take in fewer calories or start an exercise program to help your body burn more. A final reminder, before starting any diet or exercise program consult with your physician to determine what is right for you. Good luck and good health.

How To Gain Weight

Until I started following a routine to eat, my gains were minimal. Once I set my eating times to a specific time during the day along with a protein boost, I could see the gains immediately. This sample program is a quick way to get your protein WAY up and generally increase your food intake. But it doesn't require the traditional sit down 6+ a day to eat 30 chicken breasts and spend all day cooking. I've got a full-time job at a corporate office. Cooking isn't an option. Nor is eating 6+ times a day involving meals with Tupperware and the likes. I need food and I need it fast. Try this program on for size and notice the size you just might see.

Meal 1 - 7:00am

  • 1 packet of a meal replacement with 16 ounces of skim milk

  • 1 serving of whole grain cereal

  • 1 cup of non/low-fat yogurt

  • 1 piece of fruit

Meal 2 - 9:00am

  • 1 serving of whey protein mixed in 10 ounces of water

  • 1 large apple

Meal 3 -12:00pm

  • 2 grilled chicken breasts

  • 1 serving of brown rice

  • 1 cup of low-fat yogurt

  • 1 serving of whey protein

Meal 4 - 3:00pm

  • 1 packet of a meal replacement with 16 ounces of water and 5-10 grams of L-Glutamine

  • 1 large banana

  • Pre-Workout

  • 1 workout bar of your choice (preferably some carbs and 20+ grams of protein)

Meal 5 - 6:00pm (Post-workout)

  • 1 serving of whey protein combined with 1 5gram serving of Creatine mixed in kool-aid. (This is an important meal and is designed for an insulin spike at just the right time to increase creatine and amino acid uptake by the muscle cells).

Meal 6 -7:00pm

  • 8 to 10 ounces of a lean round or flank steak

  • 1 serving of rice

  • 1 medium baked potato

  • 1 large green salad

Meal 7 - 10:00pm

  • 1 packet of a meal replacement with 16 ounces of skim milk

  • 1 large banana

  • 3 to 5 grams of L-Glutamine

And that's about it. Simple? You will be significantly increasing the protein uptake. Which means you should be increasing that water consumption as well. I'm not a fan of waking up at 1:00am to get more protein and therefore, I did not include anything beyond 10:00pm. I've noticed some significant gains from this program. My workouts were hardcore but my nutrition was lacking. By putting my eating times to a set schedule, I felt better during the day and was even more ready to tackle that workout later in the day.

Good luck,

Red Meats and a Therapeutic Diet

There are many reasons to not include red meats in a therapeutic diet ranging from slowing down the process of elimination to increasing the chances of colon cancer.

Meat digestion and assimilation uses more of the body?s energy than other foods. This use of energy in a person whose system is weak may well tip the scales into them becoming ill.

If a person is on a detoxifying diet, meat will slow down the process of elimination because it uses a lot more energy than other foods. Meat is known as a suppressing food; in fact a heavy meat eater may not have any elimination whatsoever.

Another effect that increases the suppressing value of meat is the promotion of putrefying and unfriendly bacteria; these are form due to the increase of alkalinity in the gut which meat proteins promote.

If meat proteins reach the colon in an undigested form they will putrefy, the result of this rotting is the release of toxins into the colon and offensive gas. Research has shown that protein in meat cause putrefaction twice as fast as vegetable protein.

Autointoxication happens due to the putrefaction and toxin production. The liver recycles the toxins into the bile instead of eliminating them.

By eating meat the high protein value is counterbalanced by the high fat value of the saturated fats within meat.

The risk of colon cancer increases with a diet high in fat. There are many reasons for this.

A fatty diet increases the secretion of bile salts into the gut, whilst in the gut the bacteria there convert the bile salts in carcinogens which are link to liver and other cancers. A low-fibre meat diet causes constipation which lengthens the contact of toxins against the lining membrane of the colon which increases the risk of cancers.

Fruit and vegetables have protective values against cancer, people who are big meat eaters tend not to eat enough fruit and vegetables which results in there protective values being low. Also when meat is cooked or preserved in a certain way (i.e. barbecued) carcinogens are created.

Meat has iron in it; people with high iron amounts increase their chances of certain forms of cancer such as colorectal and lung cancer. In fact cancer sufferers with high iron amounts actually decrease their survival time which suggests that tumours like an iron-rich environment.

Eating too much meat causes excessive uric acid; this may lead to gallstones, gout, kidney stones, Bright?s disease and rheumatism. This is a major concern in meats which are not of an organic origin. Meat can easily be contaminated by bacteria and also contains toxins such as herbicides, pesticides, antibiotics, various hormones, adrenalin, phenolic acid, creatine, creatinine, uric acid, urea, chemicals and parasites. For example a one-pound well done steak contains 4 to 5 micrograms of benzopyrene. This is equivalent to a person smoking 300 cigarettes. Benzopyrene is one of the major cancer causing substances found in tobacco smoke. In Iceland where a lot of smoked fish is eaten and benzopyrene is found in the fish from the smoking, the population suffer from high rates of stomach and intestinal tract cancers.

The meat industry is just that, it is an industry and many of us are not aware that cattle, pigs, chicken and sheep are raised intensively to produce cheap meat quickly. To do this they are raised in a carefully controlled mechanized assembly line environment where they are frequently given antibiotics and other disease fighting medicine. This unnatural way of raising livestock leads to cheap meat but this meat tends to be nutritional deficient and full of chemicals.

Because of the way intensively reared meat is produced it is prone to bacteria and parasites such as salmonella and clostridia (which lead to botulism). If meat is not refrigerated and cooked properly than these bacteria and parasites can lad to major ill health.

To keep meat looking fresh, healthy and pink, food additives are used. Sometimes Nitrates are used which can change to nitrosamines which are highly carcinogenic. Sulphur dioxide and benzoates are other ways of chemical preservation that have been linked to food intolerance in sensitive people. Sulphur dioxide and other forms of inorganic sulfites are collectively known as sulfiting agents. Sulfites have an adverse effect on vitamin B1.

Food colourings and flavouring are also added to meat products to make them more appealing and to enhance flavour; these too can have a negative affect on people who are prone to food intolerances. To enhance the colour in process meats, antioxidants are used in the form of chemicals such as butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT).

The reason for adding food additives, colourings and flavouring to meat is to conceal their inferior quality and extend shelf life. Normally this type of meat is high in fat content and low in nutritional quality. These deficiently in nutrients can cause many different ailments in people.

Antibiotics are used extensively in rearing livestock, low doses of antibiotics causing animals to put weight on faster as well as keeping bacteria diseases in check. Unfortunately these diseases are becoming resilient to the antibiotics and are becoming more prevalent. The antibiotics most given to animals are penicillin, chlortetracycline and tetracycline, these are also used to treat human health problems. It is now becoming evident that the antibiotic resilient bacteria are being pasted onto humans which are causing disease in humans that is resilient to antibiotics.

As highlighted the process of rearing meat, preserving and making it look fresh for market can produce a product which is high in chemicals and toxins and low in nutritional value. The body takes a long time to process and elimination meat. This results in the body becoming in contact with a toxic food product for a long time. A healthy body mostly copes with this but if a body is unhealthy it could lead to major health problems. This is why it is best to keep to a vegetarian diet and to abstain from eating red meat when on a therapeutic diet.

Inner Cleavage!

I read an article back in March 2005 that had the words of the title of this article in it. I picked it up at the Cancer Center at Beaumont Hospital, in Detroit Michigan. It was a heartfelt story of a woman who had lost her breasts to Breast Cancer. The story went on to talk about Melissa Etheridge and of her deliberate boldness at the 2005 Grammy's, when she came out with a bald head, after her cancer treatments, as if proudly displaying it as her gift of life. The story went on to talk about women who in desperation for survival had in some ways traded their beauty for life.

I related to the story, being a breast cancer survivor myself. But, what truly touched me about that article was the woman in the story talking about how when her outer beauty had faded away, and during treatments, she was left with spirit, raw and powerful and hanging on with claws, daring her to live.

What a concept. Have you ever been dared to live? Tim McGraw has an old song titled Live like you were dying, about a man, who seemingly is given a certain number of years or months to live due to some type of fatal disease. In the song when asked what he was to do about this news, he replied with, skydiving, mountain climbing, and a wish to all of his friends to one day know what it feels like to live like you were dying.

I remember what it felt like going through my cancer treatments. I remember the ugliness of my body and the forced humbleness of a deep seeded pride. I recall wondering if I would live through it, the pain, the blisters and stress. Looking back, I realize, I lived every day. I lived more then each day then I sometimes do now. Why is it that we have to be faced with something tragic to appreciate LIFE? What is it in our human-ess that makes us forget the grace and mercy of God and the power of prayer until we are brought to our knees at a crucial point in our life and MADE to remember? Funny, how God sometimes has a way of reminding us of the fragility of life. I believe He does this just so that we DO remember.

I recently was reminded again last week when another lump was found after almost two years of survival. I'm a prayerful, faithful woman, but I found myself even MORE prayerful. I found more time to enjoy my days, to kiss my kids and tell my husband I loved him. I also found a lot more time for God. Hmmm, makes me wonder why. But isn't life funny that way? We move along forgetting that our time is short, our days are numbered, our fate is destined and we truly have no idea when Gods hand will reach down and pluck us from our busy, appointment filled, carpooling, grocery shopping, house cleaning, business building days. These precious days that we can't seem to find time to get on our knees and give thanks because we don't have the time. Why, because our lives are just too full. Too full. I want you to remember that last statement. Life IS full. Praise God our lives are filled! Live every single day of it!

We have one month, one day a year to get our families together to gather in praise and thanksgiving. A National Holiday will do that for most of us. But how about not waiting for that Thanksgiving Holiday or that crucial moment of unknown fate.

When you find yourself on your knees at times like these, stay there. We could all stand to kneel a little longer. My hope is that this year we remember Gods graces and appreciate our lives and everything in them because God is good! Something as simple as feeling your pulse each morning is proof of that. Keep on remembering. While you're at it, remember those full days when your inbox is so full that you can barely find time to breathe? Those are the days to be grateful for. Those are the days to get on your knees in praise because when your in-box is empty, you're dead.

By the way that lump in my breast? Nothing but a small cyst. Cancer Free another day! Praise the heavens for this and every day. I intend to fully live ALL of mine. How about you?

Small Changes Yield Big Benefits

You can start today - right now, even - on a road to feeling better, looking better, living longer and enjoying a far better quality of life.

We're all familiar with the big steps:

If you smoke, do yourself and those who love you a huge favor - STOP. It'll be the best, though possibly the hardest, gift you ever give them.

Nix unhealthy vices such as drinking, speeding, taking your health and safety for granted, etc.

However many fruits and vegetables you consume, double that!

Those are the Big Ones, and I don't have to tell you how important they are, but this article is about the Little Ones. They don't have the publicity of the larger steps, but they're every bit as important.

In no particlular order, here are the small steps I'd love for you to start taking. Ideally, you'll take each and every step each and every day - but realistically, you should just aim at doing just as many as you can, just as often as you can. Let's get to it!

Limit empty calories. You can't cut them out entirely, but try to ditch as many sodas, doughnuts, cookies, chips, fries, etc, as you can. Next time you go to your favorite fast food restaurant (go ahead and admit it, I've seen you there!), have a salad in place of the fries and rink tea instead of pop.

Replace eating red meat with chicken or fish at every opportunity. The steps will be even bigger if you make sure the chicken or fish is grilled or baked instead of fried.

If you're trying to lose weight, switch to using artificial sweetener in your tea and coffee, and switch to a diet drink. A while back, I began a weight loss regime. I simply began using the little pink packets in my morning coffee instead of sugar, and I sweetened my tea with artificial sweetener instead of the cup of sugar I normally used. The final switch I made was going from Dr. Pepper to Diet Dr. Pepper. These are the only changes I made to my diet, and I quickly lost over 10 pounds. You quickly get accustomed to (and even begin to prefer!) the diet drinks and sweetener. I literally can't stand the taste of regular pop now, something I was once incredibly addicted to.

Begin walking. Start with a trip around your neighborhood or a stroll through the park or mall. Heck, even start with lapping Wal-Mart, just start and start today. Make your walking a priority and don't allow anything to interfere with it. You will soon be so hooked on the walking buzz that you won't allow yourself to miss a single day. When weather or illness prevents me from walking for a day, I feel crummy, absolutely crummy!

Small changes can yield very big, glorious results. My husband once told me that he had shaved stubborn strokes off of his all-important golf game. I asked him if he'd gotten new clubs, new balls, changed his stance or started scoring creatively. He showed me one tiny little maneuver with the positioning of his hands - he said it made all the difference in the world. All he did was change his thumb's stance!

In closing, here's a website I'd like for you to check out: The Longevity Game. It makes you think - and thinking's usually a good thing.

Keep checking Buttermilk Press.com, as we'll be adding health and fitness related articles at an alarming pace. Make these changes today and you'll be thankful tomorrow!

Autism Is There A Link With Immunizations?

Autism is a neurological, developmental disorder, which can inhibit the normal developmental growth of individuals. Symptoms of autism include impairments in social skills, as well as communication skills, repetitive behaviors, and poor speech patterns. Because the severity of the symptoms will vary, some individuals diagnosed with autism may be able to live on their own, while others become totally reliant on someone to care for them. While there have been theories that autism may be caused by immunizations, there has been no scientific data found to link the two together.

Research has been conducted to find a connection between autism and immunizations and research will be continued to discover what causes this damaging disorder. However, none of the data collected, from the research conducted so far, has been able to prove this theory. The National Childhood Encephalopathy Study was investigated in 1997. The study was to find a connection between neurological function and the measles vaccine. Researchers did not find any connection between the two and if anything, only confirmed that the measles vaccine did not contribute to any neurological disorders or dysfunction.

Several other studies done over the course of the next nine years were also conducted to find the link between immunizations and autism. Again, none of these have shown as strong link between the two. One of these studies, conducted in 1998 by Wakefield and colleagues, suggested that the MMR vaccine caused intestinal abnormalities and developmental regression in children within a few weeks of receiving the MMR.

However, this study had its problems, including the fact that only 12 children were used in the study, they did not use any healthy children for control subjects, and at least 4 out of the 12 children involved had behavioral problems before they experienced any symptoms of bowel abnormalities. Due to the fact that so much was wrong with the research, many of the researches retracted their opinions of the results and none of the results gained can be used as supporting evidence.

What does all of this mean? Generally, for any theory to be proved, scientific data must point one toward the answer. None of the research conducted in trying to find a link has been proven. Many studies are going on that are following the theory that autism is linked to a genetic abnormality.

Recently, a study was conducted on over 30,000 Japanese children, born in Yokohama between 1988 and 1996, that has really taken hold as proof that there is no connection between the MMR and autism. Basically, what this study shows is that even after the MMR was replaced with single vaccines, the number of children diagnosed with autism has continued to rise. What this means is that parents should no longer be worried they are putting their children in danger when they get the MMR.

The fact is that throughout the years of research, not one study can prove that there is a link between the triple immunization, MMR, and autism. The research will continue, however, for the cause of autism in the hope that we will not just find a cause, but a cure, as well.

Toothpaste What In The World Have I Been Putting In My Mouth?

Boy, I sure am glad I'm addicted to reading labels! Over the years I found my favorite time to read labels is waking up in the early morning with that first cup of java in an attempt to get the blood circulating to my brain. Well, one day just before brushing my teeth while still partially dazed, I scanned over the ingredients list on my toothpaste tube and nearly gagged. Sodium laurel sulfate? Eckkkk.....

Sodium laurel sulfate is an artificial foam booster used in many products from garage floor cleaners and other industrial cleansers to store bought soaps and shampoos. In a concentrated form it is not only an irritant, but some studies have even linked it to cancer. Some debate the fact that it may pose a threat to our health and environment, and I can be open minded enough to agree that the amount used in most products is within a concentration appropriate for the product's purpose that certainly won't kill you overnight if the product in question is used as directed. (Although I personally prefer to avoid products with it.) However, in my mind, I can't justify the reasoning of it being used in a product that's to be used in my mouth several times a day!

I decided to do some further research on ingredients commonly used in toothpaste and the results have surprised me. It turn out that sodium laurel sulfate wasn't the only thing I should be worrying about.

One of the of the concerns I had already been aware of was with fluoride. There have been studies proving that over-exposure could cause forms of cancer in time. What's interesting is, in my research I actually came across one point of view that was a big 'ol so what? Everything causes cancer nowadays. Ordinarily, I'd almost agree. The difference is toothpaste is easily ingested and even if you rinse well trace amounts are sure to get left behind. Multiply that by three times a day for the rest of your life...

Then the real shock sets in! There are now studies that prove fluoride has very little to no effects in the prevention of tooth decay! Alright then.... It seems like an entirely pointless risk to me now.

A newer ingredient that has been added to toothpaste as an antibacterial agent is triclosan. It's formulation and structure has been compared to some of the most toxic known chemicals. Some argue that it is in fact safe, but setting the chemical's composition aside, there are also other concerns. Being an antibacterial agent, it takes exercise away from our immune systems. Just like the theory of the overuse of antibiotics- bacteria and viruses will eventually build stronger and stronger resistances which will make it harder to treat more serious conditions in the future. Antibacterials don't discriminate either. Good bacteria could also be killed, creating an imbalance.

Some toothpastes also contain hydrated silica. Now this, I already knew, was pretty much sand. What I am still trying to figure out, is why one would want it in there toothpaste?

There were a couple of other questionable additives that I have read about, more than half of what I've read about are additives also used in pesticides. It sounds like there's yet another product on the market that ruffles up interesting debates in regards to safety.

Am I saying, everyone hurry up and throw out your toothpaste before you die! Absolutely not. I simply think people should be informed so that they can make their own decisions and in the very least, have the opportunity to know it's a good idea to have an extra good rinsing after brushing your teeth. The only thing I do strongly encourage is that if you have small children- please keep this in mind and keep an extra eye out for them while brushing! I remember how much I loved the taste of my Sesame Street toothpaste as a kid, so most of my worries are for them. Ingesting enough of this stuff can easily be toxic for a small child.

If you are interested in safer solutions you can always check out your local health food store for more natural toothpastes, but as many of times products such as these tend to cost a little. For a thriftier approach, I know many that use plain baking soda on their toothbrushes. Some even drip just a few drops of hydrogen peroxide on their brushes before the baking soda.

For myself, personally, I've had a hard time adjusting to these methods so I have found a few more tolerable solutions. Sometimes mixing a few drops of a natural orange, lime, or peppermint essential oil makes the experience easier to deal with in regards to plain baking soda. My favorite method by far is making my own natural homemade recipe for toothpaste. What I do is take a small container of baking soda and slowly mix in natural vegetable glycerine until it reaches a similar consistency to the toothpaste that we're all commonly used to. Then I sparingly add a few drops of my essential oils to taste. Glycerin is naturally sweet and mildly antibacterial, so if you make a little at a time there's no concerns of it spoiling. Oddly enough, not only does this taste surprisingly decent, but my teeth are actually whiter than ever!

Playing with natural essential oils in toothpaste is actually pretty fun and can make it pretty tasty, but remember even natural substances can be toxic. So as always- do your homework FIRST! I know many are used to minty toothpastes and wintergreen essential oil is one in particular that may be tempting, but is in fact toxic if ingested internally!

What Is Diabetes?

Your doctor may have recently advised you have diabetes. Or you are overweight and you have discovered you may be at risk of diabetes. Others may have a friend or family member who has been diagnosed with the disease. Just what does diabetes mean and how does it affect your lifestyle?

Diabetes means that your blood glucose (often called blood sugar) is too high. Your blood always has some glucose in it because your body needs glucose for energy to keep you going. But too much glucose in the blood isn't good for your health.

How do you get high blood glucose?

Glucose comes from the food you eat and is also made in your liver and muscles. Your blood carries the glucose to all the cells in your body. Insulin is a chemical (a hormone) made by the pancreas. The pancreas releases insulin into the blood. Insulin helps the glucose from food get into your cells. If your body doesn't make enough insulin or if the insulin doesn't work the way it should, glucose can't get into your cells. It stays in your blood instead. Your blood glucose level then gets too high, causing pre-diabetes or diabetes.

What is pre-diabetes?

Pre-diabetes is a condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal but are not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. People with pre-diabetes are at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes and for heart disease and stroke. The good news is if you have pre-diabetes, you can reduce your risk of getting diabetes. With modest weight loss and moderate physical activity, you can delay or prevent type 2 diabetes and even return to normal glucose levels.

What are the signs of diabetes?

The signs of diabetes are:

?being very thirsty
?urinating often
?feeling very hungry or tired
?losing weight without trying
?having sores that heal slowly
?having dry, itchy skin
?losing the feeling in your feet or having tingling in your feet
?having blurry eyesight

You may have had one or more of these signs before you found out you had diabetes. Or you may have had no signs at all. A blood test to check your glucose levels will show if you have pre-diabetes or diabetes.

What kind of diabetes do you have?

People can get diabetes at any age. Type 1 diabetes, formerly called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is usually first diagnosed in children, teenagers, or young adults. In this form of diabetes, the beta cells of the pancreas no longer make insulin because the body's immune system has attacked and destroyed them.

Treatment for type 1 diabetes includes taking insulin shots or using an insulin pump, making wise food choices, being physically active, taking aspirin daily (for some), and controlling blood pressure and cholesterol.

Type 2 diabetes, formerly called adult-onset diabetes or noninsulin-dependent diabetes, is the most common form of diabetes. People can develop type 2 diabetes at any age?even during childhood. This form of diabetes usually begins with insulin resistance, a condition in which fat, muscle, and liver cells do not use insulin properly.

At first, the pancreas keeps up with the added demand by producing more insulin. In time, however, it loses the ability to secrete enough insulin in response to meals. Being overweight and inactive increases the chances of developing type 2 diabetes.

Treatment includes using diabetes medicines, making wise food choices, being physically active, taking aspirin daily, and controlling blood pressure and cholesterol.

Why do you need to take care of your diabetes? After many years, diabetes can lead to serious problems in your eyes, kidneys, nerves, and gums and teeth. But the most serious problem caused by diabetes is heart disease. When you have diabetes, you are more than twice as likely as people without diabetes to have heart disease or a stroke.

If you have diabetes, your risk of a heart attack is the same as someone who has already had a heart attack. Both women and men with diabetes are at risk. You may not even have the typical signs of a heart attack.

You can reduce your risk of developing heart disease by controlling your blood pressure and blood fat levels. If you smoke, talk with your doctor about quitting. Remember that every step toward your goals helps!

Later in this article, we'll tell you how you can try to prevent or delay long-term problems. The best way to take care of your health is to work with your health care team to keep your blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol in your target range.

How is weight loss important?

If you have diabetes and are overweight, even a moderate reduction in weight can have a positive benefit to your health and possibly blood pressure and cholesterol. If you are overweight or obese and don?t have diabetes, you have added risk of developing the disease.

How can I tell if I am overweight?

There are several methods to determine a healthy body weight. The simplest is to measure around your waist. Men who are greater than 94 cm (37 inches) and women who are greater than 80cm (32 inches) are overweight. Another method is the Body Mass Index which takes into account your height, weight and gender. If your BMI is greater than 25 you are considered overweight. If it is greater than 30, you are considered obese.

PAIN Relief: Treatment and Management of the Two Types of Pain

Physiological pain and Functional pain are two major types of pain defined recently by a resident doc of mine. It is a great way to figure out the cause of pain rather quickly. The definitions and possible treatments below are my thoughts on them. Do not treat yourself without seeking the advice of a physician. Simply take some notes from this post and bring it to your doc or tell them what you 'found on the internet'. They love that. Uh huh.

Enjoy the information - it took some time writing this and it is jam packed with information so you may have to read and re-read to make tails of some areas.

Physiological Pain

  • No wound or trauma occured
  • After long hours of being semi-still - as sleeping - pain gets worse
  • Increased movement helps the pain go away
  • Occurs in many ill health states - like arthritis, maldigestion, diabetes, malnutrition, dehydration, migraines, headaches
  • Inflammation in the body is what is causing the pain.
  • Reduce the body's inflammation and likely the pain will go away.
  • Taking pain killers such as aspirin, motrin, PainB Gone, whathaveyou may help but does not address the cause of the pain - so it is, in my mind, not ideal.
Steps to Reduce Physiological Pain
  • exercise
  • drink water
  • improve digestive function
  • take a supplement to reduce systemic body inflammation.
  • sleep your 8 hrs so growth hormone gets released and repairs tissues
  • limit inflammatory foods such as sugar and known food allergens - common ones are dairy, wheat, egg, peanut butter
  • discuss with your physician and discover what the causative factors may be.
    Functional Pain
    • This is more anatomically an issue within joints, tendons and ligaments.
    • Tends to feel better with rest, relaxation
    • Gets worse with motion in the problem area
    • Occurs with trauma or injury to the area
    • Found after intense exercise, falls, car accidents or any incident which the body takes a blow.
    • Taking pain killers such as ibuprofen, aspirin and tylenol may seem to help short term but longtem not a great idea.
    • Treat the underlying anatomical and functional insufficiency and pain will ease.
    Steps to reduce functional pain
    • Limit aggravating factors.
    • If you hurt your shoulder, don't help your friend move, be a baseball pitcher that weekend or lift objects without thinking.
    • Increase nutrients to the area via hydrotherapy.
    • This can be done using hot/cold contrast water. Hot water brings in the nutrients from the blood and then a burst of cold pushes all the inflammation and metabolites out of the area. Heat the area with water as hot as you stand for 1 minute and then ice cold water for 10 seconds. Repeat this 3 times and end with cold. Very important that one ends with cold as this draws blood back into the area after a few seconds of being frozen. The body intends to warm the area that is cold - so if ending with cold, the blood will come rushing back in providing intense warmth to the point of sweating. Ask your doctor if you can do this - it may aggravate arthritis, autoimmune disease, asthma and other conditions. Also cannot do contrast therapy if the injury or trauma has been less than 3 days duration.
    • [many docs state that a person should do 3 minutes hot and 30 seconds cold - yes that is ideal but more ideal is getting the person to do it. time is limited this day in age so if you are one of many limited with time, at least do 1 minute/10 seconds 3x. If you have more time, excellent, do 3 min hot, 30 sec cold 3x.
    • Take joint supplement with glucosamine sulfate - 500mg three times a day for 8 weeks minimum
      • This is what the studies have shown effective. Glucosamine HCl is garbage. Glucosamine sulfate is what has been used is human studies and proven effective - not the HCl or other types of glucosamine. Spend your money wisely.
    • Stretch, swim and seek physical therapy and the advice of a sports medicine doctor.
    • An excellent book is Dr David Musnicks, Conditioning for Outdoor Fitness. Dr Musnick is my sports medicine professor and he flat out is impressive.
    • Many injuries are due to overtight muscles - such as shoulder rotator cuff injuries due to a tight supraspinatus muscle pulling itself from the rotator cuff. Relax, stretch and ultrasound the supraspinatus muscle and likely your injury will improve much faster.

    • A podiatrist told me a vast majority of his patients with foot and ankle problems have a tight achilles tendon. Stretch it. Don't wear high heels.
Bottom line: Taking a pill to relieve pain may be a great thing temporarily. However, if done longterm, irreversible damage may occur and hinder your physical and mental capacity for the rest of your life. Seek out the problem and get it worked on. Take the simple guidelines above and discuss them with your doctor.

Think about the pain next time instead of blindly popping a pain killer.

      Address it.

Your body is speaking to you.

      Listen.

Coffee : Poison or Health Elixir?

Computers are very complicated, so computer professionals need to keep their brain synapses firing rapidly. To accomplish this, many computer professionals consume large amounts of coffee. Studies keep coming out that prove coffee is dangerous to our health. Other studies prove those findings to be false. Is coffee bad for us or not?

      Does coffee raise blood pressure?

A 2002 study by John Hopkins University that tracked 1,000 former medical students found that heavy coffee drinking is associated with a small increase in blood pressure, but not enough to increase the risk for hypertension.

      Does coffee cause heart attacks?

A 2000 Finnish study that surveyed more than 20,000 Finnish men and women about their coffee drinking habits and medical history found no evidence that coffee drinking is connected to heart disease.

The study did find that coffee drinkers have poorer health habits than those who drank no coffee. Those who drank coffee were more likely to smoke and have greater amounts of body fat.

Those who drank less than one cup of coffee a day were more likely have back problems, constipation, nausea, gallstones, and congestion, and deaths from heart disease were highest in those who did not drink coffee.

      Does coffee cause diabetes?

A 2003 study by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health found that people who drank four to five cups per day reduced their risk of type 2 diabetes by 30 percent. And men who drink six or more cups of coffee per day lowered their risk of type 2 diabetes an additional 20 percent. (The additional protection did not appear for Women).

      Does coffee harm your brain?

A 2000 study by researchers in Hawaii that surveyed 8,000 men found that those who drank three or more cups of coffee per day were five times less likely to develop Parkinson's disease. Coffee appears to provide strong protection from Parkinson's disease.

These studies prove that coffee is not bad for us, but in fact it provides many health benefits. So computer professionals can continue to consume large amounts of coffee in order to keep their brain synapses firing. I would like to expand further on the health benefits of coffee, but it's time for my coffee break.

Dentistry is the practical application of knowledge of dental science (the science of placement, arrangement, function of teeth) to human beings. A dentist is a professional practitioner of dentistry. A Dentist is skilled in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth, jaws, and mouth and who makes and inserts false teeth.

A Dentist is needed for correct most teeth conditions but there is a clear alternative to closing a tooth gap. So forget everything you?ve heard about closing gapped teeth. Because now there?s breakthrough technology that lets you closes your gap without bands, brackets or wires.

Teeth Gap has a product called Teeth Effects. By placing a Teeth Effect Band around the teeth with a gap will draw the teeth together; your gap will close right before your eyes. Your teeth will move, little by little, day by day, until your gap is closed. Teeth Effects are also removable so you can eat, drink, brush, and floss as usual.

Teeth Effect Bands are clear; most people won?t know you are straightening your teeth unless you tell them. After closing your gap you?ll also enjoy the added assurance of being able to express yourself with confidence, without being embarrassed or insecure about your teeth.

Please visit http://www.teethgap.com to close your gap simply by wearing a band around your teeth.

The Connection Between Brain Inflammation, Alzheimer?s and Parkinson?s Disease

The evidence is overwhelming that sustained inflammation is the driving force of many degenerative diseases. Chronic inflammation is centrally implicated in heart disease, cancer and chronic viral conditioning such as Alzheimer?s.

Nowhere is damage more telling than chronic inflammation in the brain. Parkinson?s disease is inflammation burning away zones in the brain. Alzheimer?s involves many breakdown processes with inflammation at the forefront of these failed neurological processes.

What then, is an effective program to control brain inflammation? Antioxidants like Vitamin C can block free radicals that often stoke inflammation. Vitamin C and E also have had some success against dementia in clinical trials further substantiating their anti-inflammatory properties. Acetyl-L-Carnitine helps the brain cells make the energy they need for repair and renewal while Ginkgo Biloba combined with Phospholipids will also enhance antioxidant action.

      Cognizin? Combats Mental Deterioration

Alpha GPC is a proven nutrient for individuals with mental deterioration related to poor circulation of which inflammation is a major factor. An exciting new ingredient Cognizin? has proved to be extremely effective in combating brain deterioration. To read more on the clinical results of Cognizin? follow this link: http://www.cognizin.com/studies.html

Neurovar? with Cognizin? Improves Your Mental Focus Factor

Bill, a 55 year old VP of sales at a leading lighting manufacturer, used a product called Neurovar? for 12 weeks. Neurovar? contains Vitamin C, Cognizin, Ginkgo Biloba, Acetyl-L-Carnitine, Alpha GPC and other support nutrients. Bill states ?I have more focus and seem to be more mentally sharp. At first I thought it was a placebo effect but over time I realized this product really works. I will continue using this product for its performance and protective properties.?

If you are looking for something preventative or something to improve mental performance and while easing inflammation, a quality supplement like Neurovar? is the educated answer. Taking anti-oxidants can be a benefit to overall brain health but a more complete formula with multiple quality ingredients is recommended here. If products like Neurovar? are too costly do the next best thing and use some of the less expensive anti-oxidants. This option will provide some protective properties for the brain.

Sodium and the Importance in Nutrition

Sodium Chloride, the chemical name for common salt, contains 39 per cent of sodium, an element which never occurs in free form in nature. It is found in an associated form with many minerals especially in plentiful amounts with chlorine. The body of a healthy person weighing about 65 kg. contains 256 g. of sodium chloride. Of this the major part, just over half, is in the extra-cellular fluid. About 96 g. is in bone and less than 32 g. in the cells.

Sodium is the most abundant: chemical in the extra-cellular fluid of the body. It acts with other electrolytes, especially potassium, in the intracellular fluid, to regulate the osmotic pressure and maintain a proper water balance within the body. It is a major factor in maintaining acid-base equilibrium, in transmitting nerve impulses, and in relaxing muscles. It is also required for glucose absorption and for the transport of other nutrients across cell membranes. Sodium can help prevent catarrh. It promotes a clear brain, resulting in a better disposi tion and less mental fatigue. Because of its influence on calcium, sodium can also help dissolve any stones forming within the body. It is also essential for the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and plays a part in many other glandular secretions.

There is some natural salt in every food we eat. Vegetable foods rich in sodium are celery, cucumbers, watermelon, lemons, oranges, grapefruit, beet-tops, cabbage, lettuce, corn, lady?s fingers, apple, berries, pears, squash, pumpkin, peaches, lentils, almonds and walnuts. Animal food sources include shell fish, lean beef, kidney, bacon and cheese. The sodium chloride requirements for persons living in the tropics have been estimated at 10 to 15 g. per day for adults who are engaged in light work and 15 to 20 g. for those engaged in hard work. The requirements of children are from five to 10 g. and those for adolescent boys and girls from 10 to 25 g.

Both deficiency and excess of salt may produce adverse effects o the human body. Deficiencies of sodium are, however, rare and may be caused by excessive sweating, prolonged use of diuretics, or chronic diarrhoea. Deficiency may lead to nausea, muscular weakness, heat exhaustion, mental apathy and respiratory failure. Over-supply of sodium is a more common problem because of overuse of dietary sodium chloride or common salt. Too much sodium may lead to water retention, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, stomach cancer, harden- ing of arteries and heart disease.

In case of mild deficiency of sodium chloride, taking a teaspoon of common salt in one half litre of water or any fruit juice quickly restores the health. In severe conditions, however, administration of sodium chloride in the form of normal saline by intravenous drip may be restored to. The adverse effects of excessive use of sodium chloride can be rectified by avoiding the use of common salt.

      Asthma Inhalers

Are you an asthma patient? Do you want to manage your condition? Are you the type of person who dislikes taking pills to counter an asthma attack? Nowadays, you can always use asthma inhalers to alleviate your symptoms. These inhalers are among the latest developments in asthma treatments. Inhalers are now widely available in drugstores and pharmacies. Doctors and asthma experts often recommend asthma inhalers to patients for immediate relief.

Asthma inhalers are portable devices. With these, you can deliver medicine straight to your lungs, anytime and anywhere you need them. However, you can't just purchase asthma inhalers indiscriminately. Most of these can only be bought with prescriptions. If you want to use an inhaler, ask your doctor's advice. He can tell you if this is the best treatment for you. He can also tell you what specific product you should be looking for since there is a wide variety of inhalers available in the market.

      Types of Asthma Inhalers

There are many asthma inhalers, but the most common ones are the metered-dose and dry powder types.

Metered-dose inhalers make use of a chemical propellant that pushes the medicine out of the inhaler's canister. You have to squeeze the canister to release the medication, then inhale it.

Dry powder inhalers operate the same way. However, when the medicine is released from the canister, you have to inhale more rapidly.

Both types of inhalers deliver different kinds of medication. Some are for long-term control while some are meant only for quick relief. Examples of these medications are long-acting bronchodilators and a combination of Corticosteroid and long-acting bronchodilators, as well as short-acting bronchodilators, Corticosteroids, Cromolyn or nedocromil.

Asthma inhalers can help relieve you when you are suffering from an asthma attack. And though they are handy and offer fast relief, you must be careful in using them. Always follow your doctor's instructions regarding how often you should use your inhaler. Overdependence on the medication released by these inhalers can lead to a severe asthma attack or even death.

Phentermine Generics & Brand Names: How To Avoid Prescriptions Riddled With Impurities

Which diet pill are you currently taking for your weight loss needs? Recently, many people have been switching to brand names as opposed to generics. This is because generic manufacturing is put under far less strict rules and conditions. For example, the purity of the prescription drug you are taking is allowed to be far less when manufactured as a generic.

Should I Buy Generic Prescription Medications?

If you are taking a generic prescription medication, another factor to consider is that there are several generic versions of Phentermine available online and from brick-and-mortar pharmacies. Depending on which pharmacy you use, you may receive a different version of generic Phentermine each time you refill your prescription. This may affect your ability to lose weight, as different purity levels and doses of medication will change benefits and the number and strength of side effects.

It is recommended that you choose a brand name version of Phentermine, such as Adipex-P, and continue using that brand exclusively to avoid getting medication containing a dissatisfactory purity of Phentermine.

Generic Or Brand Name Phentermine: Which Is Best For Me?

In many cases, the generic versions of Phentermine use differing mechanisms of action, and, therefore have differing efficiencies. This inconsistency can affect your program for weight loss. You may want to stick with a single brand that is proven to yield consistent results.

Which Brand Name Diet Pill Should I Use?

Adipex (Adipex-P) is a weight loss medication that is indicated for short-term use. This is because long term use will cause you to build tolerance and, therefore, all Phentermine diet medications will lose their effectiveness.

If you are enjoying refreshing bursts of energy in the morning, but then are becoming hungry during the night hours, have a chat with your doctor about using Adipex-P 37.5mg tablets. Many doctors prescribe this medication for their patients because the 37.5mg tablet can be broken in half. As a result, you can take half (18.75mg) in the morning and the other half at night to extend your medication?s effectiveness through the whole day. If you then have trouble sleeping at night, talk to your doctor, who will probably tell you to take half (18.75) a tablet per day, until you can tolerate Adipex.

Adipex-P is, so far, the only version of Phentermine which lasts over 12 hours. However, please remember to diet and exercise along with taking your medication in order to maximize weight loss and your health.

      Keep In Mind:

Note that I'm not a physician. You should talk to your doctor before taking any advice found in this article. I do not speak on behalf of the manufacturer of Adipex-P, Gate Pharma. Liposuction Is It Worth The Risk?

Having surgery to improve your body is drastic and will always involve some risk. Liposuction is a popular form of cosmetic surgery and most clients are pleased with the outcome. But as with any surgical procedure there are risks involved. It is important before embarking on this journey that those risks have been explored and that the decision is yours based on fact and not what friends or doctors encourage you to do.

Liposuction is a surgery and as with any surgery infections can occur. It will depend upon your particular physician whether or nor an antibiotic is prescribed after surgery. Even with keeping the wound clean, an infection could happen. Infections vary in their seriousness but some can be life threatening as in the case of necrotizing fasciitis (bacteria eats away at the tissue) or with toxic shock syndrome (a serious, sometimes fatal, infection caused by a bacteria that is associated with surgery).

An embolism could occur when fat is loosened and enters the blood through vessels broken (ruptured) during the procedure. It is possible for pieces of fat to become trapped in the blood vessels, to gather in the lungs or travel to the brain. Pulmonary emboli (fat clots in the lungs) are characterized by shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing. Fat emboli can cause permanent disability or be fatal.

During liposuction it is difficult for the surgeon to see where the probe is and therefore it is possible to puncture or damage internal organs. This problem is called Visceral Perforations (puncture wounds in the organs).

Seroma is also a possible problem. This is where there is a pooling of serum (the straw colored liquid from your blood) in areas where tissue has been removed.

Paresthesias (altered sensation) may be experienced at the site of the liposuction. This may show up as an increased sensitivity in the area or numbness in the area. In unfortunate cases these changes in sensation may be permanent.

After liposuction there may be swelling (edema). This could last for weeks or even months after the surgery.

You may experience a fluid imbalance. Fat tissue, which contains a lot of liquid, is removed during liposuction plus the surgeon may inject large amounts of fluid during surgery all of which can cause a fluid imbalance. If this happens it can result in serious conditions such as heart problems or kidney problems.

Frequently a drug called Lidocaine is used as a local anesthetic during liposuction. Because of the high doses of Lidocaine that may be used there is a possibility of Lidocaine toxicity that may cause the heart to stop. Any type of anesthesia can cause complications and is always a considered risk during any type of surgery.

There are numerous reports of fatalities related to the liposuction procedure and there have been several studies done to estimate how often liposuction clients die during the procedure. Some studies indicate that the risk of death is as low as 3 deaths to every 100,000 operations performed. Other studies indicate that it is as high as between 20 -100 deaths per 100,000 liposuction surgeries performed.

Danger of Blood Borne Pathogens Contaminations!

Blood borne pathogens are microorganisms such as viruses or bacterias that are carried in blood or body fluid and can cause disease in people, including, Hepatitis B (HBV), AIDS and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Blood borne pathogens can be transmitted through contact with infected human blood and other potentially infectious body fluids.

Occupation Exposure can occur through :

      1. Accidental puncture from contaminated needles, broken glass, or other sharps.

      2. Contact between broken or damaged skin and infected skin and infected body fluids.

      3. Contact between mucous membranes and infected body fluid.

In an emergency situation involving blood or potentially infectious materials, always use Universal Precautions and try to to minimize your exposure by wearing gloves, splash goggles, pocket mouth to mouth resuscitation masks, and other barrier devices.

      If you are exposed:

      1. Wash the exposed area thoroughly with soap and running water. Use non-abrasive, anti-bacterial soap if possible. If the blood is splashed in the eye or mucous membrane, flush the affected area with running water for at least 15 minutes.

      2. Take a blood test and Hepatitis B vaccination.

      3. Tell your doctor the source individual. Try to get the individual blood tested as soon as possible for HIV or HBV after consent is obtained.

Anytime there is blood-to-blood contact with infected blood or body fluids, there is slight potential for transmission.

Unbroken skin forms an impervious barrier against blood borne pathogens. However, infected blood can enter your system through:

Open sores, cuts, abrasions, acne, and any sort of damaged skin such as sun burns or blisters, damaged or open wounds.

Always take precaution and treat all human body fluids and items soiled with human body fluids as contaminated. With contaminated, always first thing to do is to disinfect all spills of body fluid and pre-soak all contaminated clothing.

Not Just Good Life a Very Good Life!

We all need an organised system of healthy living. People, who lead a very good life, follow this system of ?natural hygiene?. The mind and body gets self-regulated, self-repaired and self-regenerated. In other words, there are only three steps to be followed to keep our mind and body working.

      1. The body and mind needs fuel to keep them working constantly.Supply its constant needs.

      2. Never poison the body and mind.

      3. Supply the requisites of good health.

      1. Supply its needs.

Fresh and natural air, pure water and good food are the regular needs of the body. Do not deny its needs.

      2. Never poison the body and mind.

Natural hygiene means instinctive nutrition. Taking non-polluted food is a must to keep our body internally clean. Foods, which suit our biological adaptation, which does not produce excessive heat and avoiding food which affects our body temperature are most suited. Foods suited to weather conditions, raw food and foods which we can easily digest, are all essential to keep our body free from poisoning. The hygiene for the mind involves clean thoughts, words and actions. Keeping our mind free from stress and tension paves way to a healthy mind.

      3. Supply the requisites of good health.

This is the most important part of natural hygiene. In the 19th century, cleanliness was totally disregarded. Even physicians and surgeons did not believe in washing their hands after a surgery or a check up. No one believed in bathing. But then a crusade was launched against this condition and then people learned to bathe, to eat more fruit and vegetables, to ventilate their homes, to get exercise and sunshine. Proper sleep, exercises and sufficient rest as and when required help in keeping the body and mind fit and in good working condition. Improving ourselves morally through yoga and meditation, by admiring beauty and nature and being kind, inspiring and even by love and affection we show, we can maintain the mental poise and equilibrium.

Let us all learn to achieve the highest level of good life by happily attempting to more closely follow nature!

      Ionithermie Detox Treatment

Ionithermie Detox ? An effective anti-cellulite procedure

The Ionithermie detox treatment originates from France where it has been used to impact cellulite, improve muscle tone, and increase skin elasticity. Ionithermie has enjoyed popularity in European Spas and cruises due to its often immediate results. Ionithermie detox treatment works at the cellular level combating the hardened toxins that are contained in cellulite. These toxins are said to lead to problematic skin conditions in areas where cellulite tends to accumulate. In Ionithermie cellulite reduction, treatment is tailored to impact the accumulated toxins at a much deeper level than comparable treatments.

Length and details of the Ionithermie detox procedure

Ionithermie works by using organic compounds combined with two kinds of stimulation. The organic compounds consist of Micronized Algae, Guarana, RNA, ivy, and a Thermal-Aroma Clay that contains conductive properties. Micronized Algae is known for its ability to detoxify while improving metabolic function. Like many sea-based ingredients Micronized Algae is rich in minerals which are factors in its application in Ionithermie. RNA (ribonucleic acid) enables the outer epidermal layers of the skin to renew and re-hydrate. The conductive and Thermal properties of the Aromatic Clay are the key ingredient that ties in the organic and stimulation components of Ionithermie. Its ability to maintain heat and transmit electrical stimulation results in the increased effectiveness of Ionithermie when compared to other treatments.

The stimulant components consist of Galvanic and Faradic stimulation via specialized equipment. The Galvanic component uses positive and negative ions to propel the organic compounds in the skins area of treatment. This results in a treatment that is more effective in achieving the desired outcomes.

The Faradic component is one that has been employed by chiropractors and therapists to stimulate and restore both muscles and tissue. Its use in Ionithermie follows similar goals and is also desired for its ability to achieve spot slimming on the body.

The Les Complexes Biotechniques company of France has developed the compounds and technology that is most often used in the Ionithermie treatment. Most establishments that offer this treatment will perform it on Les Complexes Biotechniques equipment.

Those concerned with pain will be delighted to know that stimulating current from the Ionithermie treatment device has been described as relaxing.

The average Ionithermie sessions lasts approximately 30 minutes.

      Potential Ionithermie detox side effects

Potential side effects typically comprise of such things as skin irritation and redness, which is most often seen in patients with sensitive skin.

It is also recommended that patients with metal plates or pins avoid treatment in the areas in which these objects are located.

Long-term results of Ionithermie detox treatments

Many patients see results after the first Ionithermie treatment. Patients are encouraged to undergo multiple treatments in order to make a significant impact on cellulite. (5-13 treatments are recommended) Patients also have the option of a follow-up Home Therapy that extends the effectiveness of the treatment.

      Ionithermie cost

Ionithermie treatment costs between $130 and $170 per session. As with any procedure your geographical area may determine the overall costs. Ionithermie treatment in Houston will typically cost less than Ionithermie treatment in Los Angeles

Will my insurance cover Ionithermie treatment?

Because Ionithermie treatment is considered an elective procedure, insurance usually will not cover the operation.

      Identifying a Nickel Allergy

While we have all heard of people having a dust mite allergy, dog or cat allergy, peanut allergy, gluten allergy, and so on, very few of us have heard of the people living with a nickel allergy. Even so, the number of people living with a nickel allergy is actually on the rise, partly due to the ever-increasing popularity with body piercing in which nickel is a common metal. In fact, experts estimate that people with a nickel allergy has risen by as much as 40% over the past 10 years, specific to piercing.

With a nickel allergy, the symptoms can strike people of all ages and both genders. While some people will have immediate reaction, most will have a reaction caused by prolonged exposure to the nickel. If you have a nickel allergy and like piercings, then you might consider using stainless steel, gold, or silver instead.

Other people who have a nickel allergy include those working with various chemicals or machinery that involves nickel such as hairdressers, hospital staff, or those working with cleaning chemicals. The problem is that for alloy to be produced, nickel is added to other metals. Therefore, nickel could easily be a component of many things we use throughout our daily lives without us even knowing it. For example, eyeglasses, watches, belt buckles, and even zippers all have nickel. For the person with the nickel allergy, this would be a problem.

Other items commonly made from with degree of nickel include pens, razors, scissors, handles on kitchen or bathroom cabinets, cigarette lighters, catches on purses, toasters, needles, and so on. If you have a bad nickel allergy, you can actually purchase a testing kit that can help you identify the things you handle daily that might be a contributing factor. Although avoiding everything with nickel would be difficult, at least you would know some of the items to avoid.

Just as nickel should be avoided by touch, there is also concern about food consumption. Generally, if someone has a serious nickel allergy, his or her doctor would prescribe a nickel-restricted diet in which foods high in nickel would be eliminated. Some of the foods would include:

      Beans
      Buckwheat
      Chocolate
      Dried Fruit
      Figs
      Lettuce
      Licorice
      Linseed
      Millet
      Multigrain Breads
      Nuts
      Oats
      Onions
      Peas
      Pineapple
      Prunes
      Raspberries
      Salmon
      Shellfish
      Soy Powder
      Spinach
      Tea
      Tomato
Wheat Bran or Wheat Bran Products?and more

Generally a person with a nickel allergy will experience skin rash and irritation. This dermatologic effect can be magnified by humidity and sweat. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to desensitize the person living with a nickel allergy using pills, shots, or other forms of treatment. Therefore, the best method of treatment is avoidance. If a rash does develop from the nickel allergy, usually cortisone cream will help.
